How to Transfer Your Domain: A Step-by-Step Guide

Transferring your domain name to CloudMySite is a straightforward process. We've broken it down into four simple steps. Before you begin, please ensure you have access to the domain management panel at your current registrar.

Step 1: Prepare Your Domain for Transfer​

Before you can initiate the transfer, you need to prepare your domain at your current registrar (the company you bought the domain from).

  1. Unlock Your Domain: For security, most domains are "locked" to prevent unauthorized transfers. You must log in to your current registrar's control panel and unlock your domain. This setting is usually found in the domain management or security section.
  2. Disable WHOIS/Domain Privacy: If you have WHOIS privacy protection enabled, you will need to temporarily disable it. This is required so that the domain registries can verify your ownership during the transfer process. You can re-enable it once the transfer to CloudMySite is complete.
  3. Get the EPP Code: The EPP code (also known as an Authorization Code, Auth Code, or Transfer Code) is a unique password for your domain. It acts as a key that proves you have permission to transfer the domain. You can request this code from your current registrar's control panel. Copy this code, as you will need it in the next step.

Step 2: Initiate the Transfer on CloudMySite​

Once your domain is prepared, you can start the transfer process on our platform.

  1. Enter Your Domain: Navigate to our Domain Transfer page and enter the domain name you wish to transfer into the search box.
  2. Confirm and Purchase: Our system will verify that the domain is ready for transfer. You will then be prompted to proceed with the purchase. A domain transfer typically includes a one-year extension of your domain's registration, which is added on top of its current expiration date.

Step 3: Authorize the Transfer​

This is the final confirmation step to prove your ownership.

  1. Enter the EPP Code: During the checkout process, you will be asked to enter the EPP code that you obtained from your old registrar in Step 1.
  2. Confirm the Transfer: After entering the code, confirm that you wish to proceed with the transfer.

Step 4: Approve the Confirmation Email​

The final step is an email verification.

  1. Check Your Email: The official domain registry will send a confirmation email to the administrator email address listed for your domain.
  2. Approve the Transfer: Open this email and click the confirmation or approval link. This is the final authorization that tells the registry you approve the move to CloudMySite.

After you approve the email, the transfer process will begin. It can take anywhere from a few hours to 5-7 days to complete, depending on the domain extension and your previous registrar. We will notify you as soon as the transfer is successful and the domain is in your CloudMySite account.
