Domain Transfer FAQs

Here are answers to some of the most common questions about transferring a domain name to CloudMySite.

Why should I transfer my domain to CloudMySite?

Transferring your domain allows you to consolidate your web services. It simplifies management by letting you handle your domain, hosting, and email all from a single dashboard. You also benefit from our competitive pricing, robust security, and easy-to-use management tools.

Will my website or email go down during the transfer?

No. A domain transfer only changes the provider responsible for managing your domain's registration and renewal. During the transfer, we do not change your domain's DNS (Domain Name System) settings. This means your website and email service will continue to function without any interruption or downtime.

What is an EPP Code (Authorization Code)?

An EPP (Extensible Provisioning Protocol) code is a unique security key for your domain name. It acts like a password and is required to authorize the transfer of a domain from one registrar to another. You must obtain this code from your current registrar before you can initiate a transfer.

How long does a domain transfer take?

The time it takes to complete a transfer can vary depending on the domain extension and the releasing registrar. Most transfers are completed within 5 to 7 days after you approve the transfer confirmation email.

Are there any restrictions on when I can transfer a domain?

Yes. According to ICANN (the organization that governs domains), you cannot transfer a domain under the following conditions:

  • Within 60 days of its initial registration.
  • Within 60 days of a previous transfer.
  • If the domain is in a "Redemption" or "Pending Delete" status (meaning it has expired and is about to be deleted).

Please ensure your domain does not fall under these conditions before starting.

What happens to the remaining time on my registration?

When you transfer a domain, any time you have left on your current registration is automatically carried over. In addition, the transfer process typically requires you to pay for a one-year registration extension. This year is added on top of your existing expiration date. For example, if your domain has 6 months left until it expires, after a successful transfer, it will have 1 year and 6 months until its next renewal.

How do I know if my transfer was successful?

We will keep you updated throughout the process via email. You will receive a final confirmation email from us as soon as the transfer is complete and the domain has been successfully added to your CloudMySite account. You will also see the domain appear in your dashboard.
